Hand forged stainless damascus steel ring. Pattern welded steel, also known as damascus steel, is produced by forge welding layers of differing steel alloys into a single billet. Further forging and twisting creates an invisible dense layered pattern within the billet. Finally the steel is etched in acid which corrodes one of the alloys preferentially, revealing a beautiful pattern. The alloys used in this ring are 304 and 316 stainless steel. It will not rust or corrode. This is in contrast to many damascus steel rings which use non-stainless carbon steel alloys. Also unique to this ring is the way in which it is formed. Most damascus steel rings are made by machining(cutting away) a solid billet. Instead, I use a small piece of a billet and forge it to size, which produces a faceted surface. It also slightly modifies the pattern in an interesting way. Please indicate ring size. Band width can also be customized, please indicate in order notes. For reference, the ring shown in the photo is a size 10, and 6.5mm in bandwidth.
